The Competitive Job Market and the Graduates of the Executive MBA Program

Many students of the EMBA in the old days had their tuition paid for by their organizations, who expected them to stay with them for bigger and better offices after completion of the course. However, majority of the participants in executive MBA program courses these days are paying for their fees themselves. It is perhaps due in part to this that so many students are seeking new occupations even as they undergo the program.

All things considered, the Executive MBA's heyday rose not too long ago. About three or so years ago, more and more people started asking for a career version of the EMBA. Career changes seemed to be the order of the day too in several researches investigating students' intentions and desires with the EMBA.

A B-school is basically a layover location now. Schools claim that they are seeing more and more of their students changing career paths during their studies. Many B-schools started by bringing in career counselling specifically to coach EMBA students, whose needs vary from those studying full-time.

To get into an EMBA, you need to prove that you have at least 7 years of working experience behind you, which stacks up to considerable experiential knowledge. That having been said, many of the students are still asking their academic institutions to provide help in locating the professions of their choice. Still, majority of the students are complaining that their universities do not provide the help they need.

Fortunately for degree-takers, many institutions are now giving them what they want. You may also find a number of institutions that provide further services in aid of helping people find their careers. Obviously, the services are all meant to help the students end up in the profession they desire.

Even so, many of the students are saying they could do with more of these services. There has been an inverse proportion for the number of persons finishing the EMBA and the number of jobs available. Networking figures highly even now for the students of the program who wish to change jobs or companies.

There are a lot of schools still unwilling to help students find alternative careers out of what they consider a conflict of interest. More and more are seeing the light, though. This is now becoming a course where students decide to take themselves from their companies and to other ones.

There have been significant developments altering the face of the matter. Some schools have tied together with the MBA Career Services for Working Professionals Alliance, which offers the best guidelines and practices for career services for part-time MBA and executive students and alumni. Most of colleges are not providing true career courses such as those found in conventional MBAs, however.

A lot of people thus turn to campus-based recruitment events. There may be issues with this for the universities, though. Usually, it is argued that the people in the EMBA have a job already, and so do not require job fairs and the like.

The Executive MBA program is basically a resource center, not a hiring center. While some say firms will soon resume sponsorships for their employees, most see the EMBA becoming a place for professional change. Universities shall simply have to keep up with the times.
