Great food and good preparations make what people know as southern cooking. The ingredients include 1 ½ cups of self-rising flour, 2 eggs, 1 cup of buttermilk, liquid shortening (olive oil), all-purpose flour, a tablespoon of liquid shortening (oil for the skillet), and ¼ cup of sugar, if desired. When it comes to the south, no corn bread is served cold. To do this, the oven is usually fired up to 450 degrees. The real secrets here are to sprinkle some cornmeal in the skillet just before adding the dough, don’t use flour when making pure cornbread, and after cooking, turn the cornbread upside down in the skillet to keep warm.
