Water storage in an advanced country like the US is not really taken into account since the people could always have water that almost never runs out. A lot would waste water without knowing how precious a natural resource it is. Poorer countries are the ones that appreciate water tanks for them to have a sufficient amount of water.
For people to appreciate water more, World Water Day is done annually. The 22nd of March marks the day of celebration of World Water Day or World Day for Water as made by the United Nations General Assembly. This celebration came to reality in 1993.
There are no major activities to commemorate this day, although the United Nations encourages people to simply not use the tap for the entire day in order to conserve this life-giving natural resource. All countries should take part and the UN has different themes every year for the countries to get involved. Water and the matters concerning our world can be a topic in a certain year.
Various agencies in various countries are present to help the UN in their celebration in conserving water. These agencies work hard to attract the attention of governments and various people’s groups in order to promote clean water and the conservation of aquatic habitats around the world. Starting in 1997, the World Water Forum has participated in whatever the World Water Council has conducted.
With the forum they discussed why many people could still not have clean and safe water. Safe water is something that all should have and it is very sad that those in first world countries just don’t care about it. For this reason, the Council has come up with a yearly report of the status of water in several parts of the world.
In recent years the themes were “Water for Cities: Responding to the Urban Challenge” in 2011, “Clean Water for a Healthy World” in 2010, “Transboundary Waters” in 2009 and a lot more. All of the topics each year are really thought about carefully. From them, important messages and reports were circulated among governments and different agencies such as the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO), and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), among many others.
